{"id":1898,"date":"2018-05-16T17:26:04","date_gmt":"2018-05-16T14:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.parcmamaia.ro\/?p=1898"},"modified":"2018-05-16T17:26:04","modified_gmt":"2018-05-16T14:26:04","slug":"edificiul-roman-mozaic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parcmamaia.ro\/en\/edificiul-roman-mozaic\/","title":{"rendered":"Roman building with mosaic"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">One of the most remarkable archaeological remains of the ancient city of Tomis is the Roman Mosaic Building, which had an area of over 2000 square meters, of which 600 meters of mosaic carpet have been preserved today.<\/h1>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0The archaeological importance of the Roman Mosaic Building led to the construction, between 1970-1976, of a steel, concrete and glass structure above the monument, in the area of the original mosaic, for protection.<\/h3>\n<p>It was discovered following the works done for the construction of apartment blocks in the fall of 1959. Originally, the construction stretched over three of the four terraces of the Tomitan port seafront. The first terrace was located at the current level of Pieta Ovidiu and connected to one of the public squares of the ancient city.<\/p>\n\n<p>Several warehouses and the impressive hall with the mosaic floor occupied the next terrace of the building. The mosaic hall represented the actual meeting place of merchants and officials of the time.
