Perhaps the most representative monument of the socialist period is the statue of Victoria.<\/h1>\n

The Victory Monument is made in the style specific to socialist realism and glorifies the anti-fascist struggle of the Romanian people. It was unveiled in 1968, and its creator was Boris Caragea.<\/h3>\n

In the history of Romanian art, the name of the sculptor Boris Caragea represents controversy, glory, destruction, denial, then returning to a completely different register. An artist of extremes. Born in Balcic, where he earned his living as a boatman as a teenager, Caragea became a favorite artist of the Royal House, and later became the official sculptor of the communist regime.<\/p>\n

\nDobrogean Boris Caragea was born on January 24, 1906, in Balcic (Quadrilater), growing up on the terraces of the Black Sea, among the archaeological remains at Cap Caliacra. Son of the sea, Boris earned his living as a boatman for a while, but life had great plans for him, commensurate with his impressive physique. He received numerous orders, creating important plastic works, among them: "Pain", "Disc Thrower" - created in 1958 and located on the seafront in Constanta<\/p>\n
