{"id":2031,"date":"2018-05-26T14:40:14","date_gmt":"2018-05-26T11:40:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.parcmamaia.ro\/?p=2031"},"modified":"2024-03-31T10:36:37","modified_gmt":"2024-03-31T08:36:37","slug":"catedrala-ortodoxa-constanta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/parcmamaia.ro\/en\/catedrala-ortodoxa-constanta\/","title":{"rendered":"Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Cathedral"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">Orthodox archiepiscopal cathedral\u00a0<i>&quot;Saints Peter and Paul&quot;<\/i>, the largest religious edifice of the city, was built between 1883-1885.<\/h1>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">The cathedral dedicated to Saints Pentru and Paul is the largest and most important Orthodox place of worship in Dobrogea, being also known as the Archbishop&#039;s Cathedral of Tomis. The church is located in the historical area of the city, close to Elisabeta boulevard and the waterfront in the Casino area.<\/h3>\n<p>Built between 1883 and 1885, the beautiful church was the first Orthodox settlement built in Dobrogea after the liberation from the domination of the Ottoman Empire. The place of worship was built of brick and concrete according to the plans of the famous architect Ioan Mincu.<\/p>\n<p>The interior furniture, made up of paneling, pews, chandeliers, polyframes and candlesticks, is original and was made in Paris, made of oak wood, according to the architect&#039;s drawings. Part of this furniture, of extraordinary elegance, is covered with gold leaf and inlaid with semi-precious stones. From the point of view of the original interior painting, the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul has an interesting story. The steps to paint the church were started in 1888, three years after the end of the construction. The task was given to Demetrescu Mirea, a famous painter of the time.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2033 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/catedrala-petru-pavel-constanta-3-287x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"376\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The heritage of the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul includes old icons, including a miracle-working icon of the Mother of God, gospels, epitaphs, objects of worship made of precious materials, but also the relics of three saints.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2001, the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul was declared an archiepiscopal church with a monastic character.
