With a heritage of over 7000 works of Romanian art, Art Museum represents a point of reference on the cultural map of the city, through the value and importance of the exhibits.
The basic exhibition of the Constanta museum is structured on monographic cores/rooms of the masters and suggests a complex image of each one's creation, but also of the directions of evolution in the modern period of Romanian art.
Once you enter the museum, visitors are greeted by the works of artists from the early period of Romanian painting (19th century). Reference works by Nicolae Grigorescu, Stefan Luchian, Theodor Aman and Nicolae Tonitza are exhibited in this section. We feel obliged to emphasize the fact that the museum owns the entire collection of the painter Tonitza, which means over 70 works.
An important moment in the history of the Museum of Art in Constanta happened in 1990, when the works from Nicolae Ceausescu's protocol villa in Neptun were donated to the institution. Then paintings and sculptures of some famous Romanian artists came into the possession of the museum.
Throughout its decades of existence, the museum has edited exhibition catalogs, studies and specialized books, cultural and urban anthropology research, focused on issues specific to modern art and the Dobrogean space.
